Summer Makeup

Summer has always been a fashion highlight in the Philippines. Sexy, hip, and anything cool is the tagline of this season. But despite all the fashion goodness that wraps the summer months, a number of people still find it hard to wear makeup because of the scorching hot weather. Why go out with a bare face at daytime? Fear not. Here are some dos and don'ts for painting your facades:

Base
Moisturizing before applying foundation is essential as it keeps the skin hydrated. Oily/sweaty skin or not, it will never be an excuse to pass up using one. Store this product in the fridge as cold moisturizers are absorbed faster while cooling facial skin, reducing oil and sweat production.

Foundation
A great alternative to using foundation during the hot summer days: tinted moisturizers. Not only does it keep the skin fresh, it gives a pop of color as well. When using a liquid type base, remember to keep it light and to apply the product evenly. Stay away from cream foundations too - it will clump, blot or get patchy due to the humidity. Go for light weight counterparts like powdered minerals, mousse foundations, and 2 in 1 products.

Eyes
Consider using a primer on the lids so that the eyeshadow lasts longer. Matte-finish neutral tones are always a go-to. Different shades of brown are safe, just add a hint of shimmering gold to give the eyes that extra oomph. Not planning to wear any eye color? Sport a “winged eye” look by using liquid eyeliner on the upper eyelid then swipe one to two coats of mascara on the lashes and you’re good to go.

Cheeks
Looking flushed but neutral is best during this season. Cool rum, peach, or pink are some of the tones to choose from. Achieve a polished tan look by dusting the face with a bronzer on areas where light would normally hit first – the apples of the cheeks, the middle part of the forehead, the tip of the nose, and the chin.

Lips
Bold red and light coloured lips have been a statement over the past year. However, going too dark or too pale in broad daylight can be a hit or miss. Stick to natural tints then finish off with a clear gloss to get that fresh-looking pout.

Extreme heat can be expected in the summer time. So as much as you’d love seeing yourself fully made up, less is still more.
