Affordable Makeup Part 1

People often ask me where I buy my stuff – and they are always
surprised to find out I normally purchase from a drugstore and not some fancy
shop. I always tell them: “it’s not the brand or the price that matters – it’s
how the product is applied.”
A lot of individuals here in the Philippines do not have a
clear understanding what “drugstore makeup” is, much like how confused I was when
I first heard the term. Think: Watsons or the makeup section at any department
store. Gets mo na?
Finding the right merchandise for your skin type and
complexion is hard enough, but discovering something amazing yet affordable is
by far tougher. It takes time, not to mention hurting your very own pocket from
all that trial and error. Here’s a list of reasonably priced
items you might like:
Note: some products on this list have approximate
prices as they may have changed from the last time I bought mine.

Revlon Photo Ready Liquid Foundation (less than 1000Php)
Spend a little more money on your base. Be
frugal on other items, but never on your base. My skin is darker than an average Filipino, but I still found my exact match with this product line and I love Revlon for that. However, my skin is too oily that I have to be precise in the amount of foundation I apply otherwise it would look like you can fry an egg on my face.

VOV Cover Foundation (around 450Php)
What I like about it is the fact that I can take any of the 4 shades and mix them together to match my client's complexion. However, because it's cream based, I do not suggest wearing this brand if it's too humid or if the sun is up as it may melt or look cakey especially with oily skin. I use it as a concealer because its consistency also works for that purpose. As I was looking for pictures I saw they already had a liquid line (much to my excitement). I will definitely pick that one up really soon.

Nichido Foundation Stick (less than 400Php)
I call this my magic stick. Whenever I have a client who's skin tone does not match any of the products I have, I will pull this out from my case. It matches almost all of the lighter-skinned customers I worked with.

Fanny Serrano Concealer Stick (less than 400Php)
This product never failed me. Its coverage is great, so great that sometimes I am tempted to use it as a foundation.

I am a fan of the cool rum shade. It helps me correct foundation mistakes not just on myself, but on my clients as well.

Elf Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder (less than 200Php)
These bronzers are so pigmented that you'd have a love-hate relationship with them. Drop it, and you'd wish you haven't.

This affordable makeup is interesting. I think my sister will also be interested on this. She wants to be a makeup artist like Rea Pinpin.
