Filipino 'Drag Race' Queens Raising Money To Combat Typhoon Haiyan Devastation

by World of Wonder for Logo. RuPaul plays the roles of host, mentor,
and source of inspiration for this series, which details RuPaul's search
for "America's next drag superstar."

Throughout
the history of "RuPaul's Drag Race," queens of Filipino descent have
often been represented among the diverse array of contestants stomping
the runway. Now, several of these queens have come together in an effort
to encourage fans of the show to support relief efforts for those
devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
According
to NewNowNext, season one contestant and fan-favorite Ongina is selling
autographed photos in an effort to raise relief funding. He will
reportedly donate $5 of every $7 photo sold to the Philippines National
Red Cross.

four contestant Jiggly Caliente told NewNowNext that "to see my people
back home go through such devastating disaster -- my heart breaks for
them. I couldn't imagine the helplessness and pain they must be going
through.“ The "Drag Race" star is encouraging her fans to donate to the
Red Cross’ Philippine Typhoon Relief, UNICEF or ABS CBN International
relief. He is currently engaged in efforts to set up a formal
fundraiser.

Season
three runner-up Manila Luzon, whoe first name comes from the capital of
the Philippines, is echoing Jiggly's statements. “I feel so helpless
watching the suffering on the television -- I’m seeing images of people
huddled under scraps of buildings for shelters and straining water
through t-shirts to drink,” she told NewNowNext. “But Filipino-Americans
are very proud of our homeland and we are coming together in full force
to support everyone back in the Philippines affected by the disaster.”
Luzon is calling on her fans to donate to either the American Red Cross
or Philippines National Red Cross.

Notorious
season four finalist Phi Phi O’Hara has family back in the Philippines
and has reportedly been making donations to help the devastated nation
through Habitat for Humanity. “It’s just hard to know I am safe here in
the States and can’t get over there to help and donate my time in any
way I can,” she told NewNowNext. “Not only do I have family there, I
have a huge following there and my fans are my family. I hope and pray
that they are all safe and being taken care of.” O'Hara is encouraging
her fans to help about in any way they can, and to visit The Guardian
