Vision Therapy Eyewear: Is it effective?

On my recent trip to Watsons in SM Megamall, this product caught my eye. At first I thought that they're just cool pieces of eye wear, but to my surprise they are sold to correct vision. This product promises better eyesight without glasses, and claims that it is suitable for nearsighted, farsighted & astigmatic adults or kids.
Price tag starts at Php1580 and goes up depending on the size. I tried the "L" one, and to my surprise, I can clearly see through the small holes and read from a far even without my prescription glasses! Squinting helps me see better whenever I don't have glasses on - it's somehow similar with seeing through the pinholes, because it's directing the eye's ability to focus on any subject.
Despite the shocking (and amazing) experience, I had to pass up on purchasing the item as I was still a bit skeptical on it's effectiveness.

2. Prescription glasses tend to cause stress and strain, which may contribute to progressive myopia, presbyopia & astigmatism.

Q: Who and when were the vision therapy eyewear or pinhole glasses invented?
A: It is not known who invented the pinhole glasses but the scientific principles of pinhole effects (light travels in straight lines) were discovered many centuries ago. Pinhole glasses are widely sold in America, Europe and Australia as alternatives to prescription glasses since the 1950s at least.
Q: What is the benefit of the eyewear?
A: It helps relieve strain and stress caused by prescription glasses, yet enabling clearer vision. Promotes an important vision habit to perfect vision: central vision
Q: Are there any side effects?
A: None. But due to the restricted peripheral vision, one should not wear the product when driving or moving about outdoors for safety considerations.
Q: When and how long do you wear the item?
A: Should be worn frequently as a substitute of prescription glasses indoors, such as when watching TV, when in front of a computer, and reading. For severe myopic, presbyopic and astigmatic cases (>5.0 diopeter) stepped-down prescription glasses are helpful when used with the product. Wear 5 to 10 minutes the first time and increase length of usage after getting used with seeing through the pinhole.
Q: How long do we need to wear the product to experience vision improvement?
A: It is not the length of time, but the need for reducing the root cause of vision challenges: stress and strain in the visual system. Most customers find it beneficial to wear the item progressively, starting from 10 minutes per session extending 60 minutes each time, after getting comfortable seeing through the pinholes.
Q: How do we know that vision has improved?
A: The world has become super sharp, one's existing pair of glasses has become overpowered and may even cause headache. Use the Snellen Eye Chart to measure improvement.
